It’s a big decision and huge investment buying a kitchen. So careful thought needs to be given and you need to make sure you have done some substantial research before you make a choice. So we are going to try and make your life easier by producing a collection of top tips before you buy.
One of the most important factors to determine is how your kitchen is going to be fitted. Your main choices are:
- Flat pack
- Rigid Construction
- Custom built
- Non fitted
You should ideally search for companies that specialise in one of the areas above as this will get you a specialist in that area but also a competitive price. If you decide to purchase a flat pack kitchen make a check to see if the company which will deliver it have tools to also fit it, there will be an additional cost to install but flat pack kitchens are in general always the cheapest solution.
Carry out company checks
If you have found a company which you would like to work with, check if they are part of the Kitchen Specialist Association (KSA). This will make sure you are dealing with an approved kitchen design company. A good tip is also look at the reviews on line of course no company will have 100% positive but the key is to look at what buyers reactions are i.e. Not fitted well, delivery was late etc.
Before you make a payment ask for a full itemised bill, this will ensure you know there is no hidden cost or charges. Ask for a payment plan (this is common with most kitchen purchases these days) but you want to leave part of the payment until you are happy that the kitchen is what you wanted and delivered to a high standard.
After Sales Service
Check if the company you are potentially going to use has an after sales service. This will normally show they are professional as they will personally come and check the new kitchen and can answer any questions or deal with potential issues on the spot.
Look before you buy
Remember to have a look through the show room, practise opening cabinet doors and look at the areas you think will get the heaviest wear and tear to if you feel they are durable enough.
- Carry out company checks.
- Look at online reviews of the company.
- Look at the ways you can make payment, terms and contracts.
- Do they have a good after sales service?
- Try before you buy.
