No we won't be talking about making your bathroom environment friendly; it’s been talked about much - seems as if it has been the talk of the year; pity! My thing will talk about making your bathroom your ‘own’ place - livelier, friendlier... After all, it is one place where you often de-stress yourself. Plus, it is one place that tends to get dirty (easily) if not cleaned up regularly.
Being the only room in the entire home where you get ready, bathe or dispose of the unmentionables, the bathroom has to be kept clean, green and of course, comfortable.
First things first: Now, you need to keep it sparkling clean all the time. Who knows, you might get unexpected guests at anytime? So, practice a regular cleaning session - wash away your toilet seat, bath tub and floor with cleaner (or you could use white vinegar) and wipe away sink, mirrors and bath fixtures with a colin spray every day. Make sure your bathroom is ventilated by installing exhaust vents and running them at least for fifteen minutes in the morning and in the evening.
Make it de-cluttered: However, it is always better to keep as little in a bathroom as possible, you can definitely have a few extra bottles of shampoos or bath foams. The only thing you may have to practice will be keeping everything at its place: towels on a coat stand; clothes to wash in the bin; makeup back in the drawer; combs, brushes and toothpaste in a cup (could be attached to the wall) and toilet brush in the toilet bowl beneath the basin.
Keep it smelling good (may be mint, may be rose!): You may not want your bathroom to smell of wet towels or socks or of kind-of-sulphur-like water. Make it more luxurious by keeping scented candles; spraying air fresheners; using potpourri; using linen spray on towels (although make sure to wash and make them properly dry often) or by placing matches on the back of the toilet seat. You could as well put a bowl of vinegar on the floor when you are not using your bathroom - this will absorb all the bad smelling odours.
Add flair with silk flowers and fake plants: To make your bathroom livelier spruce up the entire place with a vase full of pretty artificial gerberas, cymbidiums or amaryllis at the basin counter and a luscious topiary plant beside the bathroom door. Imagine how charming the vanity or sink counters would appear when lovely flowers will be kept there to accompany you. Although you could use real blooms and plants too, they will tend to mess up the room and will require a lot of attention. Thus, it will be a relief to have their replicas for sure.
Finally, make it more fashionable yet comfortable:
- Keep your towels folded like the shops do it to provide more pleasing look.
- Keep in a few magazines or a newspaper in a magazine rack beside the bath tub.
- Use uniform bottles to fit in neatly in storage devices.
- Get cabinets with separate storage places.
- Get a streamlined hair dryer unit mounted to a wall next to basin.
- Have a set of ready-to-use toiletries and spare towels for guests.
