Whether you’re doing the bathroom up to raise your property’s value when selling, or you’d simply like a new look, there are many ways you can give your bathroom a new look without spending a fortune. Here are some of my favourites:
1. Buy a Funky Shower Curtain or Create Your Own
Nothing adds colour to a drab bathroom like a bright shower curtain, and they’re relatively inexpensive to buy. For an even cheaper option and one that allows you to have whatever design you want, buy a plain white one which can be picked up for around £5 and decorate it yourself! All you’ll need is some stencils (or masking tape if you just want stripes) and fabric paints, plus waterproof adornments such as plastic buttons that can be sewn on for a truly unique and eye-catching curtain.
2. Change Your Taps
You don’t need to fork out for a whole new bathroom suite – by simply replacing your old taps you can breathe new life into your old bath and sink and give them a fresh look. Say goodbye to boring taps and opt for something eye-catching, whether that’s a supersized chrome mixer tap for a contemporary-styled bathroom or a pair of antique-inspired gold taps for a more traditional look.
3. Create New Storage Space
If you flick through the bathrooms section of any home interiors magazine, you’ll notice that all designs – traditional or futuristic – all have one thing in common; there are no collections of half-used shampoo bottles and other toiletries lining every surface. Whether you prefer shelves or a closed unit, ensure you have plenty of storage space in your bathroom. You could even buy some cool, colour-coordinated dispensers to pour your shampoos and soaps into for that sleek, showroom appeal.
4. Match Your Towels
Over the years you’ve probably amassed a random assortment of towels, from old, worn ones to bright beach towels that have migrated to your bathroom. Recreate that styled, hotel look with a new set of matching towels, and throw out the old ones too!
5. Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
If you have a particularly small bathroom you can create an illusion of grandeur with some strategically placed mirrors, the bigger the better. Choose a frame to match your bathroom decor, or for a modern look a frame-free mirror will look amazing.
6. Repurpose an Old Dresser
Kill two birds with one stone with a funky new vanity unit for your sink that also doubles up as extra storage space to hide away all your lotions and potions. New furniture is rarely cheap however, but if you have an old dresser or chest you simply need to cut a hole in the top for a sink, and in the back for the plumbing.
