When finding the right bathroom lighting, the rules are a little different to other lighting in the home. For the lounge, bedroom and other parts of the house, you can afford to be a little creative. There’s room for interesting ceiling lighting, from flushed fittings to chandeliers. You can also choose wall lighting such as sconces and uplights. Even table lamps and floor lamps offer a chance to play around with lighting options, helping you to create the perfect atmosphere to suit you.
There are, of course, other rooms in the home that are far more functional, such as the bathroom. Here, your options are a little more limited by the need for task lighting, which should help you do everything you need to do. While bathroom lighting is functional, in our world of smart design, it need not be completely cold and purely practical.
While a main ceiling light offers general coverage of the bathroom, it’s sometimes not completely effective. Where you need a good light source is above your bathroom mirror. Some ceiling lights can achieve this, but in larger bathrooms, the benefit of a light over, or lights on either side of, a bathroom mirror is ideal. This gives you the right coverage for shaving and applying makeup.
The Right Kind Of Bathroom Lighting
Bathroom task lighting has to be a little more honest than other lighting, sadly, and can show up all those little things that we need to take care of. That spot that’s starting to come up, the odd eyebrow hair... every morning we have to wake up to that face staring back at us, and try to sort it out somehow. This is where bathroom task lighting has to help us do the work.
The best kind of bathroom lighting offers an even spread of light, all over your face. This is most effective with a bathroom mirror that has its own integrated lighting, although lighting on either side of the mirror will also over excellent coverage. The light should be bright, but not harsh or stark. Think of a warm white glow that isn’t too hard on the eyes.
If you don’t have the budget for a whole new bathroom mirror and lighting set up, you can buy individual units that can do the job too. Bathroom shaverlights make an ideal option for bathroom lighting. Although many of these are made for fluorescent lighting, specially designed bathroom lighting isn’t as harsh as fluorescent lights used elsewhere.
The right kind of lighting will make all the difference to your home and your bathroom.
